  No, I'm not dead.
This day in History:
  • 1776 - The Continental Congress officially names their new country the United States.
  • 1926 - The National Broadcasting Company formed.
  • Mao Zedong, Chinese Communist leader, died on this day in 1976.
Though I've not been blogging for awhile, this does not mean that blog-worthy events have not been occurring in my life or general vicinity, it merely means that I have been busy and I daresay quite lazy in blogging. Sorry about that.

On Saturday I woke up early and went to the Karate clinic with dad. It was pretty cool, and I was presented with an opportunity to hone my sparring skills. And by hone I mean develop from nothing. I really don't ever get a chance to spar and I paired up with a black belt about my age. We ended up getting some contact in. Meaning, I felt a little sore the rest of the day. Went to music lessons that afternoon and picked up some material for my group's rocket. Came home and BBQ for dinner.

Sunday I woke up late and was consequently late for church. Brought mom's laptop to show a slide show of pictures she had taken, but I didn't get a chance. So after the service I went down to the basement of the church for a discussion group that no one had planned. We just sat around and watched the infomercials on TV. We also used our cellphones to call the numbers asking for such imaginary products as blue scooters, or perhaps a kilo of cocaine. I freaking love unlimited weekend minutes. After amusing ourselves by baffling what might be called reverse telemarketers I went to the youth leadership meeting. Kinda sucked. See, the really cool people who worked at the church were forced to leave by some of the parents, so now we don't really have effective leadership. I'm not giving up though, I will just have to try harder and put more effort into these kinds of things. Went home for half an hour after that then went back to church for choir and youth group.

Monday I wanted to wake up early. I ended up waking up too early, you see I crashed in my clothes the night before at about 10 PM. I'm such a lightweight now, I miss my stay-up-till-4 sleep schedule of summer. Anyways whenever I sleep in my clothes I always wake up around 5 AM, and so I did Monday. I sort of wandered around the house in a dazed manner, one akin to sleepwalking, except I remember it. I pulled a StarWars book off my shelf (X-Wing:Rouge Squadron, to be specific) and started reading. Now, I have this thing about Star Wars, you may have already noticed. I really, really like it. Sure, I'm not one of those people whose entire wardrobe consists of Boba Fett t-shirts (I much prefer the ever-classy ThinkGeek) but I will occasionally go on binges where I eat, drink, and breath StarWars. I've started reading through my novels now, in order and if history is any indication, I will not stop until I've finished the last novel in the New Jedi Order series (which I have recently acquired in paperback). The count so far: 3 down and 26 to go. Each book being 300-500 pages makes it no small task, I estimated completion to be around October break (factoring in Moby-Dick and Story of Philosophy). But I digress, the remainder of Monday was spent testing parachutes for the bottle rocket project in physics. This event was punctuated by the shattering of both my rockets that I used as test platforms. The Alpha (a small rocket) endured many less than remarkable launches, including some with complete parachute detachment. The Big Bertha (being the bigger, heavier one we tested) did better, it was 1 for 2. The first launch featured the parachute failing to open, the second the engine mount was blown clean out of the rocket body. In short, mylar is the best material, we have a parachute design that is both simple and works, and I have a lot of repairs ahead of me before I launch those two rockets again. Dad and I drove home and we, in true Labor Day fashion, had a cook out. Thus ends my three day weekend.

Tuesday was back to school for me and Miller gave us a lot of English homework. We had to take the DAPs in English, Tuesday was the GUMs. Why do bureaucrats feel the need to give everything a cute little acronym? I am convinced that our school district has hired some worthless soul to come up with these stupid acronyms just to annoy me. Enough with the conspiracy theories already, Wednesday we sat on out asses in American History, that was cool. Oh wait, we were supposed to be studying, but I didn't. And I still scored a 92% on the test today (that's 112% with corrections)! There's no justice in this world, but right now, I'm not complaining. This year is going to be so easy, I have over a hundred percent in both Physics and American history, and an A in all of my other classes except English. English will be the one class in which I must at least go through the motions of making an effort. Don't get me wrong, this mimicry will not be real effort, but should appear to be to the untrained eye (don't try this at home kids).

LotD today is to GeekCode.com. Geek code is perhaps the most efficient way of telling other people what kind of geek you are. Here's my code:

GAT d- s+:+ a--- C++ P? L+ W++ !N o? K- w O? M V? PS-- PE Y- PGP t+ 5 !X R tv b+++ DI++++ D+ G e- h! !r

Instead of learning Geek Code by heart you can also use this decoder.
